This is it! You have done the pre-season conditioning, learned new elements, choreographed your programs, and done countless run-throughs (not to mention double-run throughs!). Competition season is finally upon us. From recovery techniques found in Fitness Insider to the mental toolkit shared in Train the Mind, this edition of Figure Skater Fitness will help keep you inspired and motivated as you navigate the ups and downs of in-season.
We are excited to showcase Fiona Bombardier as she shares what helped make her the 2023 Canadian Challenge Championships winner, as well as the family legacy that has inspired and helped guide her to forge her own path in figure skating. Check out In the Spotlight to read this multi-generational skating story!
It is bittersweet that this is my final editor’s letter for Figure Skater Fitness. Since we began publishing in 2015, I have had the honour of working with so many incredible people, from the amazing athletes we featured on our covers and the skaters who graced our covers to our writers and, of course, our incredible editorial team.
I would like to give a special thanks to a few exceptional people who made Figure Skater Fitness possible. To Adriana Ermter, our masterful editorial director, thank you for sticking with us and sharing your talents with us. This magazine would not have been possible without your expertise, passion and ability to guide our contributors.
To Christian Bonin, our photographer. Thank you for allowing us to capture and share the beauty of figure skating with your photos.
To our writers, I have personally learned so much from each of your various expertise and experience. Your contributions created a scientifically-informed approach to figure skating training and competitions and for this, skaters worldwide thank you!
To my mom, Angela Ronka, thank you for taking this journey with me and supporting me from when I first stepped onto the ice to where I am today as creator and owner of FLEXAFIT. I couldn’t ask for a better person by my side.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude and thanks to you, our readers. Without you, this magazine would not have existed. I hope that your training has benefited from the information and stories that have been shared and that you will continue to achieve new goals in the future.
This is not good-bye. It is simply time for another chapter in Figure Skater Fitness and FLEXAFIT’s journey. We have a new digital video platform in the works that we are very excited to share with you all; keep a lookout on our website and socials for further details! We will also continue to provide online classes, workshops, webinars, and other resources to support figure skaters worldwide in off-ice training.
Until we meet again,
- Signe Ronka, Editor-in-Chief
